Conventional Oven vs The Microwave

เขียนโดย pacub | 16:43

How do I know how much I am saving using small appliances as compared to the oven? How much does it cost to run the appliances in our household? Are we really saving money if we used them less frequently?

Many of us are concerned about budgets and frugal living and we wonder about these types of questions. At the end of the day, our goal is to save some money to make our lifestyle more worthwhile and to have a good order of our financial management.

We have plenty of choices available for cooking. It is very easy to find a kitchen equipped with a convection oven, microwave and a regular oven. The question is which one we should be using if we would like to save energy and money.

To get to the bottom of it, we have to explore some basics or elementary foundation how electric consumption works in the kitchen. How do our appliances consume energy? Basically, they use up energy in one simple way by producing heat.

When you're cooking in the kitchen you are automatically producing heat. This is the most common usage of electricity in the kitchen. To compare cooking appliances, look at the amount of electricity power (or wattage rating) required to operate an electrical device. You are able to find the wattage label on the appliance where it tells you the model number. However, if you have difficulty in finding the label you can look at the user manual. Please take note that the amount of electricity written on the label is the maximum amount that the appliance will be able to use.

For example, a slow cooker can be between 200 to 400 watts (W) while a majority of microwave ovens can range from 500 to 1200 W. Toaster ovens are in the same range as microwave ovens. The device that require the most electricity is the conventional oven that typically use 3000 W or more. In addition, a convection oven can use approximately 50 percent less power as compared to your standard ovens.

You can see that the standard oven needs up to three times as opposed to the microwave. You will also need to consider the period of time the oven is operating. Microwave cooking can take less time than the conventional oven of course this depends on what you're preparing.

Let's go back to our conventional oven vs. microwave example. If we assume that food is cooked in an hour's time in the standard oven compared with 15 minutes in the microwave, you can clearly see that the amount of electricity used to power the microwave is lesser. Therefore, in this case having a microwave is the better option.

In reality most of us use the oven four to five times a week let's say for an average of two hours at a time. In a month that can take up quite a lot of hours. To decide which type of oven to use you will have to ask yourself if it is able to meet your time and cooking needs, not at the amount of money it can save.

Do You Know The Difference Between A Water Filter And A Water Softener?

เขียนโดย pacub | 14:42

Several years ago I moved into a new home located in a rural area that was not supplied by the nearest municipal water system. My source of fresh water was a drilled well. The water is of very good quality but is very hard water. I really did not fully understand the term "hard water" for several years but I have finally come to grips with issues related to hard water.

I have been using a water conditioning system produced by Culligan since I moved into my home. I thought it was a water softener. Everyone called it a water softener and that is what I called it. I got a little discouraged with the system performance and began considering a change. The Culligan system required the addition of peroxide to operate correctly and I was using nearly 10 gallons per month. My water was still showing some iron and system pressure was falling considerably.

I began researching water softeners. To my surprise I was not operating a water softener. It was merely a deluxe "water filter". The water was passing through a media bed that filtered the water but it did not soften it. I realized at that point that two completely distinct processes were involved in proper water conditioning.

For optimum water quality the water should be filtered and then it should be "softened". I found that the softening process removed dissolved minerals that a filter allowed to pass through. That accounted for the mineral build-up on my appliances such as electric tea kettle and porcelain fixtures etc. Even system iron is present in different forms. Some iron is actually dissolved in the water and passes through a filter. It will however solidify when it is not circulating. It contributes a very large build-up inside hot water heaters.

I decided on a simple but high quality cartridge filter and a water softener that required salt pellets for constant optimum softening. The salt used by the softener does not actually enter your water supply. I found that it's only purpose was to flush out a special media bed that has special physical qualities that attract the minerals like a magnet. Many people are under the misguided belief that salt goes into your useable water - not so.

The media bed requires flushing at regular intervals to continue working at peak performance. The system will shut down at predetermined times and close itself off from your water supply. It then takes the salted water into the media bed. This will cause the accumulated minerals to release from the media. It is all flushed into your waste water system by a separate plumbing connection. Once this cleaning cycle completes, the system re-opens and sends fresh, conditioned water to your water supply again.

This is the point where I discovered "soft water". I was amazed. After I installed my new filter and conditioner it took about 2 days to fully displace all previous water from the water heater and storage system. Now when I take a bath the difference is absolutely amazing. After several years of "hard water", the water now truly felt soft and slippery. This is soft water. Soap lathers so much better and laundry detergent can be reduced considerably yet with better results.

This was my education regarding water softening and water filtering. There is considerable difference between the two processes. I hope this will help someone still lucky enough to be using fresh underground water.

Ovens - A Kitchen Essential

เขียนโดย pacub | 18:37

An oven is a small but powerful tool in the kitchen. Looking at its small size, it doesn't seem like it can do a lot, but just about anyone who has worked with a kitchen oven will tell you the many wonders it does to home cooking. Casseroles, beef, chicken and pork, bread and cake, desserts-you name it, and the oven can cook it. A good kitchen oven works on most types of cuisine regardless of whether you're from Haiti or Timbuktu.

This kitchen appliance is used to cook food in a variety of ways, including steaming, broiling, and roasting. Old models work by burning wood or coal to generate heat inside a sealed compartment. Technology has found its way into kitchen ovens as well, though, and most if not all of today's models use gas or electricity instead. In addition, if the appliance contains both an oven and a stove, the stove may or may not share the same energy source with the oven. Some models feature stoves that operate on gas and the oven on electricity, and vice versa.

The thing to look out for when buying an oven is not how big it is, but what it does inside and outside. For instance, did you check the turntable when you bought your kitchen oven? A turntable is a device inside the compartment that helps ensure even cooking on all sides, which is very important. This is one of the things you need to be on the lookout for the next time you're shopping for a new oven in the appliance center at the mall.

Another important consideration is the interlock feature. Go to the kitchen and check whether your oven has one. An interlock feature is used to check that the door is closed at all times, and it shuts down the machine if someone opens the door while the oven is still heating. Think of it as an energy-saving function that doubles as a safety feature.

Saniflo Macerator Repairs and Problems

เขียนโดย pacub | 21:43

The three (3) biggest problems you are likely to face when you have problems with your Saniflo or any macerator that is not working, is:

The smells coming from the broken macerator and/or minor flooding.
Finding a engineer that can complete the work quickly and will have parts with them.
The Cost, some times the repair bill can be more than the price of a new macerator.

So exactly what can you do, here are few tips:

For the smell all you can really do is open the loo room window and close the loo room door to keep the smell contained in one room and some fresh smelling spray could help, this is only for a broken macerator, if your unit is working OK and the smell is the main or only problem then there are other options available to you, like internal cleaning, new carbon filters and leading a breather pipe to the outside of your property.
There really is very little point in calling a engineer that does not have all the major parts for your macerator on board as stock. Many people who have problems with their macerator just call a local or friend or plumber, but they simply will not have the parts or fully understand how the macerator works and will often just condemn a perfectly fixable macerator, by far your best option is to call some one that really understands the macerator and will have spare parts with them and preferably some one that will offer a reasonable fixed price repair service.
The cost of repairing a macerator is normally around £99 + parts, and parts are not expensive if you do need them. But many people will end up paying a lot more than £100 and most of that charge will be for the extraction and re-installation of the macerator, the cost of the macerator repair can always and I really mean always be kept to a minimum with a bit of consideration at installation and planning as to how will the macerator be taken out for maintenance.
If you think your installation may pose a few problems with extraction and/or re-installation, and remember this is different from the actual repair even though in most cases you would be charged one continues charge, the repair of some macerators in some installations can not start until extraction is complete, then ask, "if there is a extraction charge, what is it? " you can expect this to be hourly as the engineer in most cases could not know how long it will take, but usually even in the most extreme cases less than 1 day and in some cases you will not be charged for simple extractions where there as been good future planning for maintenance as extraction will be quick and easy or not needed

Often when a macerator is installed there is very little consideration as to how repairs will be carried out, this can be a very expensive mistake, there is one sure fact you can be assured of, and that is that all electrical or mechanical items will stop working one day and your macerator is no different.

We all want our bath room/loo looking as nice as possible, but just like you would not permanently tile in and fix in your washing machine so that it could not be taken out for repairs with out taking out the kitchen tiles and kitchen cupboards, it is nearly always a very expensive mistake to install your macerator in this way, this can be easily avoided with simple planning and by remembering the rule below when planning.

The rule is "last in will be first out and the first in will be last out", this simple rule along with saniflo's published 10 golden rules can save you hundreds if not thousands of pounds in repair bills, what it means is that when installing your macerator and bath room/loo the last thing to be installed will nearly always be the first and easiest thing to take out and the first thing to be installed will nearly always be the last and hardest thing to take out, for this article were talking mainly about tiled rooms.

Example 1: if you do your planning, put your macerator in place first, connect the pipes up, push up the loo against the macerator, complete the tiling up to and around the loo and macerator, when you need repairs, and one day you will, you may need to lift some tiles to be able to remove the loo so that the macerator can be taken out and repaired.

Example 2: if you plan for maintenance, then you would complete the floor tiling first and put both the loo and macerator on top of tiles making sure there is adequate room to easily remove the macerator with out the need to remove the loo or any tiles, any boxing in would be held in place with short screws and sealant making it easy to remove for future repair work

As you can see in example 2 the first thing to be fitted would be the tiles and the last thing to be installed by the plumber would be the macerator and loo, so when maintenance is needed, it is quick and easy to get access to the macerator with out the need to remove the loo or tiles, every installation is unique and different, so its up to you to ensure the planning for future maintenance for your specific installation, but remember the rule

Simple as this may sound, many people do not realise that their macerator as been installed as in example 1 until it develops a fault and and the repairs start, but also many people do not have tiles down and have easy access to the macerator, in both cases finding a macerator engineer with fixed prices that carry adequate stock parts is a good idea, as a engineer without parts is more likely to just condemn the unit for their own benefit, I have also include a link below to a contact that will offer you the fixed price macerator repairs service

About the Countertop Microwave Oven

เขียนโดย pacub | 08:28

One of the most high-tech kitchen appliances found in most homes today is the countertop microwave oven. The technology that gave birth to this modern marvel is radar. One day, a technician from Raytheon was fiddling with an active radar set when he found out that a piece of chocolate bar that was in range was melting. The microwave radiation emitted by the radar was cooking the candy bar! As a fruit of this accidental discovery (or invention?), the world's first microwave oven came into being. Compared to today's compact countertop microwaves, the Radarange was a monster that weighed 340 kilograms and cost 5,000 dollars each.

After its discovery in 1945, is an indispensable kitchen tool for most families who are hard pressed for time. Innovations added to most modern units dispel the notion that microwave oven cooking produces bland and boring results. For example, a convection microwave oven combines the speed of microwave cooking with the ability to brown foods. Other ovens have high powered halogen bulbs that heat the surface of the food at high temperatures using infrared radiation thus adding browning abilities to the oven.

Most countertop microwave ovens have settings that control the oven's power level. Internally, the magnetron that is the source of the oven's microwave energy has only one level of power output, what the power setting control does is to turn the magnetron on and off depending on the power setting chosen. So if one wants higher power output, the magnetron works in longer duty cycles. The magnetron can be heard if it is working when the humming sound in the oven changes.

There are three size categories of countertop microwave. The smaller model is labeled by the industry as portable or desktop units. The most common size is about 11 inches tall and 15 inches wide and about 10 inches deep. The bigger countertop model is called the compact microwave oven. These ovens are at least 20 inches wide, 14 inches deep and 12 inches tall. Compact size models are the most popular ovens. The largest oven which can still be considered countertop microwaves is called the medium-capacity oven. These models are a bit larger than the compact ovens and have capacities from 30 to 45 liters.

The most important safety feature when cooking using microwave oven is that there is considerably lower risk of scalding and burning. For example, the walls of the oven rarely get burning hot unlike conventional ovens. The container used in cooking the food rarely gets hotter than 100 degrees, or the boiling point of water. A cooking pot fresh from the gas range or an electric stove is considerably hotter and always poses the danger of creating 1st degree burns. The lower cooking temperature lowers the chances of food getting charred which have been identified to be cancer causing.

The fast cooking time and compact space occupied by countertop microwave ovens make it one of the most popular kitchen appliances. No wonder then most of today's busy families have one at home.

Administrative Jobs

เขียนโดย pacub | 22:41

Let's face it - the job market nowadays is virtually non-existent. The unemployment rate increases every single day. You almost need to know someone who knows someone in order to even land a job interview. It seems that the only jobs available are in specialized fields. One type of occupation that will probably always be in demand is the administrative field. Almost any successful company needs someone, to some degree, for administrative jobs. Businesses have customers and customers need to be able to reach them. This requires someone to answer those phone calls. Most times, employees and owners don't have the time or energy to handle those needs themselves. Therefore, administrative jobs are quite a necessity to them.

What do administrative jobs typically entail? As mentioned, jobs will require you to become familiar with various types of phone systems and have the ability to be able to communicate with customers and clients. You'll probably need to be able to use a computer with a great amount of ease and skill. Some companies will require their administrative jobs to have very minor computer skills while others will have specialized programs that you need to be able to move through perfectly. Where there are computers and papers that are printed out as a result of that computer usage, there are usually filing systems. You may find that some administrative jobs require a lot of tedious filing and others have very little time involved with paperwork. Depending on the size of the company, the amount of paperwork generated and what type of business it is, the filing needs could vary greatly.

What are some other responsibilities of administrative jobs? These jobs may require that you do a lot of annoying tasks as well - from filling up the paper trays for the printers to scheduling personal appointments for your superiors, the boundaries for these positions may be constantly changing. A particular personality may be needed for administrative jobs. Not everyone is tolerant enough to jump up and down to get a beverage for clients or put more toner in the copy machine. However, if you don't mind some of the mentioned tasks and have excellent people skills, looking into administrative jobs may be ideal for you.

While it isn't easy to find any vacant job positions right now, administrative jobs are always needed and may not always be advertised. Take some time to create a resume that highlights and focuses on your administrative skills. Pick out some local businesses, of all sizes, and pay them a visit. No, they may not be hiring or advertising any possible vacant positions. However, no harm will come from marketing yourself in times of need. What's the worst that can happen? You are shown the door and your resume is tossed aside? Sure... that can happen. So what. You just may find that you walk through the right door at the right time and one of those jobs will soon be yours for the taking.

Considerations in Shopping For Ovens

เขียนโดย pacub | 17:23

The invention of oven has made culinary activity a lot simpler. Today, by using modern technology, ovens have become indispensable in most household kitchens around the world. An oven is no longer just a symbol of prominence in most homes but a necessity every family needs. It is the one of the most common appliances in most kitchens allowing you to heat different food at one time, bake, roast, boil, broil, etc. Along with common kitchen utensils, a family cannot simply live without it.

Ovens are usually classified under 2 groups depending on their heating element namely, gas ovens and electric ovens. There are other high end ovens that use microwave radiation to cook and heat food known as microwave ovens. Still another group of ovens that can either use gas of electricity as heating elements are called convection ovens. This group circulates hot air produced by either electricity or gas to dissipate heat evenly inside the oven.

Depending on your needs, most ovens today have a wide variety of designs and features. This makes shopping for the right one become a little confusing because almost all of them are offering more or less the same functions and characteristics. If you go unarmed with correct knowledge of your kitchen needs, choosing the right one may become a difficult task.

The very first thing that you need to consider is the location. Before coming to a shop, you should already have decided on the type of oven that you need. If you need a compact unit, you should choose a freestanding range cooker. You can also opt for wall ovens. This entails little work though. You must have an accurate measurement of the location where you want the oven to be installed. The location should have enough space and should be able to hold and support the unit in place.

The next thing to take into account is the capacity that you need. An oven's size is dependent on its capacity. Capacity here means the amount of food or volume of container that it can support. In other words, size also means the size of the interior that you need. Appearances can be deceiving in this case. There are ovens that are larger outside but have a smaller capacity inside.

Then, after deciding on the capacity, you may also need to consider the controls. An easier control panel translates to easier operation and convenience in cooking. There are two kinds of control panel: analog and digital. Analog refers to mechanical knobs. They less expensive and will last longer but may be less precise. Digital controls are electronic panels that feature easier operation and are more accurate. They are however not as durable as analog ones.

Kitchen Appliances - Description of Today's Modern Kitchen

เขียนโดย pacub | 09:48

The advancement of technology has been felt in all areas of our lives, from the way we travel, to entertainment and even our home essentials like the kitchen. The amount of time we spend in our kitchen has also been drastically reduced, thanks to high-tech kitchen appliances preserving our food, cooking it in short amounts of time and making washing a breeze. The typical kitchen of today includes a large refrigerator, a cook top or cooking range with a hood overhead, a counter top or over the range microwave and a dishwasher.

Although the main function of a kitchen is supposed to be cooking or preparing food, the kitchen can be the center of other activities as well, especially within homes, depending on the size, furnishings, and equipment. The Toronto kitchen tends to also be the place where the family eats, provided it is large enough and has a table and chairs. Sometimes, the kitchen is the most comforting room in a house, where family and visitors tend to congregate.

A large modern kitchen is still the psychological "hearth" of the home. This makes many people choose fancy, expensive kitchen appliances and there are many options to choose from. French door refrigerators are a very luxurious item, with the freezer on the bottom and two fridge doors at the top. The cooking ranges can be replaced by more modern appliances, such as a cook top that is installed in the kitchen counter and a wall oven mounted inside the wall or counters. This can save a lot of space to be used for more counters or a roomier kitchen.

Manufactures have also improved a lot on the aesthetics of kitchen appliances, offering many color options. In Toronto the typical appliance will have the standard white color, but stainless steel is becoming the main choice for new modern appliances. Research should be done before buying new appliances, something that will suit your needs and style, and online Toronto websites such as http://www.canadianappliance.ca/ are a great start to equip your modern kitchen with the latest appliances.

How to Protect Your Electronics From Heat

    เขียนโดย pacub | 01:58

    1.0 INTRODUCTION
In our modern society, we have become very dependent upon our electronic gadgets and appliances. Most households (in the U.S) have Personal Computers with an Internet Connection. If we solely looked at the Personal Computer, we do a lot of thing with this product.

We communicate with our friends, family members and business associates.
We conduct financial transactions (e.g., buy or sell products on line)
We create all kinds of documents (which are very important to our personal and business finances/operations)
We store and play music (in the form of *.mp3 files)
We (increasingly) store pictures that have sentimental value (and could be tough to replace if lost).

For many people, anytime their "computer dies", it becomes a major inconvenience in their lives. If you were to look at some other electronic systems that we typically have in our homes, such as

    DVD Players
Gaming Systems (e.g., Playstation, X-Box, Nintendo, Wii, etc.)
    Audio Entertainment Equipment
Video Recording Equipment (for you people that like to post videos on YouTube.
Appliances (such as Central Air Conditioning Systems, Heat Pumps, Microwave Ovens, etc.)
    HDTVs (e.g., LCD or Plasma)

All of these items entertain us, enlighten us and provide us with comfort. These products each require a considerable amount of money to purchase. Further, repairing and/or replacing these products is also quite expensive. Hence, I am quite amazed that people do not do more to protect their investment (in these electronic systems) and do whatever they can to extend the operating life time of these products.

In general, there are three (3) different destructive mechanisms that will either destroy or greatly reduce the operational life-time of your electronics. These three destructive mechanisms are

    Heat
    Electrical Surge/Spike Events, and
    Electrical Noise

In this article, we are going to talk about HEAT. As we discuss Heat, we will cover the following topics.

How is Heat destructive to your electronics?
What can we do about heat - How to Protect Your Electronics from Heat and Extend the Operating Life of our Electronics?

2.0 HOW IS HEAT DESTRUCTIVE TO YOUR ELECTRONICS
Heat is an artifact of electronics. All electronic systems generate heat. Electronic systems accept electrical power (current and voltage) from the power line (via the electrical outlet). The electronic system uses a portion of this electrical power to perform work (e.g., the function that you want it to perform, e.g., play a DVD, cook a bag of popcorn, etc). The remaining portion of this electrical power is converted into heat.

However, heat is also an enemy of electronic systems. Few things are more effective in reducing the operating life-time of an electronic system, than raising the operating temperature of the electronic circuitry within your electronic system. If you were to speak with an Electronics Device Reliability expert, he/she would tell you that for every 10 degrees (Celsius) that you raise the operating temperature of an electrical device; you reduce the operating lifetime of that device by 50%. The impact of heat (in shortening the operating life) of your electronics is "huge".

3.0 WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT HEAT?
As I mentioned earlier, all electronics generates heat. There is no way to prevent electronics from generating the very thing that can destroy it. However, there are a couple of things that you can do to prevent this heat from doing so much damage.

    1. You can work to remove this heat from the electronics (as quickly as it generates it), or
    2. You can do things to try to help the electronics to not generate so much heat in the first place.

I will address each of these approaches below.

3.1. REMOVING HEAT FROM THE ELECTRONICS
Many consumer electronic systems were designed with "Heat Removal" in mind. Some of these electronic systems (like desktop computers) contain "internal fans". These fans were designed into these systems so that they could blow air through the area in which the system electronics resides. The intent behind having these fans to is blow the heat away from these electronics and to help keep them cool.

Other electronic systems contain "vents" (in their outer case) to provide an "escape path" for heat. Many of these vents are located at the top or in the "back-end" of the electrical system. On this basis, I have the following recommendations to permit the removal of heat from your electronics.

Make sure and keep papers, books, dust and other items from "blocking" the vents of these systems.
Leaving these items on top of your (DVD Player for example) will block the vents, and will not allow for heat to escape from your DVD Player. This will cause the temperature (surrounding the electronics) within your DVD player to rise; which will (in-turn) reduce the operating lifetime of your DVD player.

Make sure that the "back-end" of the electronic system is not "butt-up" against the wall or an entertainment cabinet.
It is important to make sure that there is sufficient air/ventilation space between the vents (in the back end) and the wall/cabinet to allow for Heat Removal.

Make sure and have your appliances (like your Central Air Conditioning system or Heat Pump) serviced.
Whenever these appliances are serviced, the service professional will do various things (like clean out dust and debris from ventilation path), therefore maintaining an unobstructed path for heat to escape from these systems.

Make sure that the fan (inside some of your systems) is working.
If this fan stops working, then you need to get it repaired quickly. Failure to do this will result in your electronic system having an early meeting with the "grim reaper" or an electronic waste disposal site.

3.2 REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF HEAT THAT THE ELECTRONICS GENERATE IN THE FIRST PLACE
Another approach to protecting your electronics from heat is to take steps to try to prevent your electronics from generating excessive heat in the first place. The amount of heat that is generated within an electronic system is often referred to as being related to the following expression for resistive loss: I^2XR, where:

I represents the amount of current flowing through an electronic system and
R represents the load impedance (or resistance) within this electronic system; and
    I^2 denotes " I being raised to the 2nd Power, or "I-squared"

From this mathematical expression, you can see that if we were able to reduce the amount of current flowing through an electrical system, this would certainly help to reduce the amount of heat generated within this electrical system.

QUESTION: How can you reduce the current that an electrical system uses? Doesn't it require a certain amount of current to do its job? The answer to this question is "Yes", an electrical system does require a certain amount of current and voltage (electrical power) to do its job. However, it doesn't need to use anymore current than that. Hence, we recommend that you use TVSS (Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors) components in order to reduce the current level (flowing into your electrical system).

Now, I know that some of you may be "scratching your heads" and wondering, "How in the world will this reduce the amount of current flowing into my electronic system" and (in turn reduce the amount of heat that it generates)? The answer is this: Anytime there is a large amount of electrical noise or spikes, or other forms of distortion in the electrical voltage and current in the power line, this also results in the flow of additional current into your electrical system. By using the TVSS components, you are eliminating this excessive current (due to noise, glitches, etc.) from the "power line" current, flowing into your electronic system.

In this case, you have now accomplished the following:

    1. You have decreased the amount of current flowing into your electronic system, (which is the "I" in the expression "I^2 X R") - which helps a lot to reduce the amount of heat that the system generates.
    2. By reducing the heat that the electrical system generates, you are now lowering the ambient (or surrounding) temperature in which your electronics operates.
    3. Lowering the ambient temperature will often times also reduce the load impedance/resistance in your electronic system (e.g., the "R" in this expression) as well.

QUESTION: How can you reduce the load impedance/resistance in an electronic system? Isn't that a design feature of the electronic system? The answer to this question is "Yes it is". You cannot change the load impedance/resistance by very much. But, the reason why lowering the ambient temperature will also reduce the load impedance/resistance is that many resistors have (what is called) a positive temperature coefficient. This means that as the ambient temperature goes up, does the resistor value of this particular resistor.

However, the converse is also true. If you were to lower the ambient (or surrounding) temperature, then you would also lower the resistor value as well.

SO LET'S RECAP THE BENEFITS OF USING TVSS COMPONENTS:

Using TVSS components lower the amount of current flowing through your electronic system.
Lowering this current reduces the amount of heat that the electronic system generates.
This lowers the ambient temperature for the system electronics.
Lowering the ambient temperature also lowers the load impedance/resistance (R) within the electronic system.

Both the reduction of current (and the resulting reduction of the load impedance) would serve to significantly reduce the amount of heat that the electronics system will generates.

    5.0 CONCLUSIONS
In this article, we spoke about "heat" and how effective it is in reducing the operating life-time of your electronics. Heat is one of the three (3) destructive mechanisms that will either destroy or shorten the operational life-time of your electronics. The remaining two mechanisms are

    Electrical Surge/Spike Events, and
    Electrical Noise

We have also described some guidelines on how to protect your electronics from heat, and to extend the operating life-time of your electronics. In particular, we mentioned the following approaches:

    1. Use (and do not thwart) the "Heat Removal" features of your electronic systems
Make sure that Internal Fans are working and
Make sure that vents are not blocks and that there is plenty of air space around the Electronic system to allow for the escape of heat.
    2. Use TVSS (Transient Voltage Surge Suppressor) components to regulate the amount of voltage (and in turn) current that is flowing into your electronic systems: Minimizes heat generation due to resistive loss.

Air-conditioning - Some Issues About Temperatures

    เขียนโดย pacub | 13:13

Summer comes every year with intense sunshine and high temperatures. You can deal with the heat with a fan, or better, you can use an air-conditioner. People nowadays are using more and more air-conditioning systems in their homes and their offices. However, not many people take notice of how the temperature at which they set their air-conditioner will affect their own health.

On hot summer days, the outdoor temperature often reaches more than 30oC and people often set the temperature in the room lower than 20oC. It may be enjoyable if you just stay in your room. However, when you get outside, you will feel extremely hot because of the big difference between the indoor and outdoor temperatures. This sudden change is very harmful to your health as your body cannot adapt to a significantly different environment in such a short time and you can easily catch a cold.

Normally, the difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures should be around 8oC and you should not stay in the air-conditioned room for more than two hours. Keeping the temperature in your room at a fixed level is also advisable as it doesn't only save the electricity also is good for your health.

Although it is a pleasure to be in an air-conditioned room during hot summer days, your body will have dehydrate from the effect of your air-conditioner. Good advice is to drink a lot of water and even keep a bucket of water in your room as well. This will help reduce the dryness in the air and make you feel more comfortable.

    Buying Cookware Accessories

    เขียนโดย pacub | 06:23

In addition to pots and pans and serving dishes cooks also need other kinds of cookware accessories to make their kitchen complete. These items and gadgets help to store food neatly and safely. They also can be labour saving devices, helping the cook get tasks done quickly and easily, and some devices perform specific tasks. Once a cook gets their kitchen set up the way they like it and stocked with all their staples and cooking accessories it will be comfortable and easy to work in.

Food storage is an important concern for every cook. They want to keep the food safe and prevent spoiling. Many cookware accessories are designed to store specific products and still look nice on the counter. For example, you can find a salt and pepper set, done in a whimsical hen motif and there is also a matching hen egg holder. Another good storage idea is a set of mini airtight jars. These are great for storing spices and herbs, and especially nice if the herbs are from your own kitchen garden.

Other cookware accessories are practical gadgets that do specific jobs. These items include can openers, which can be electric or one of the new one touch battery operated openers. Another nice accessory to have is a food mill, for mincing and puréeing. These are great for making smooth soups and sauces. It can also make healthy baby food. If they do a lot of baking, they may want a set of food-safe pie beads to weigh down the pastry.

Knife sharpeners are also practical cookware accessories, as a sharp kitchen knife makes chopping so much easier. A blender helps create smoothies as well as sauce, and a compact slow cooker can take care of the meal when the cook's away. For those who like fast and nutritional meals, they may want to consider an electric pressure cooker. And nothing smells better than fresh baked bread and loaves are easy to make with a counter top bread maker.

Cooks may want to add a traditional kitchen scale with weights to their collection of cookware accessories. A scale will help with exact measurements and look great on the counter. They may want to also add a pair or two of oven gloves. Made from heat resistant Kevlar they protect hands from hot ovens and fires, while allowing better finger control and movement. And if they use the microwave they may want a microwavable bread sleeve and a set of reusable microwave toppers.

Every cook is unique and so is their kitchen. They learn the kinds of meals they like to make and the tools they need to work with. They should create a space that is, neat, comfortable and easy to work in, with all their preferred cookware accessories nearby. When they have a well stocked kitchen it will be easier and more enjoyable to create delicious and satisfying meals. And a comfortable and happy kitchen is one of the best places to be in a home.

Cheap and Easy Microwave Cleaning Tip

    เขียนโดย pacub | 22:23

Vinegar is great in the kitchen and no home should be without it. I think that we all know how good it tastes with chips or in a salad dressing, but vinegar is also a lot more versatile than most people think, and can be used very successfully for cleaning in and around the home. In fact you can even use vinegar for cleaning the microwave. Yes, honestly, vinegar can be an absolute god-send when it comes to cleaning a dirty microwave oven.

No one enjoys sticking their head inside the microwave and using a mixture of 1 part soapy water, 1 part scouring pad and 20 parts elbow grease in an attempt to get rid of all that caked on, burnt on, might as well be glued on, food that can sometimes be the forfeit for trusting hubby or the kids to warm something up for themselves. And you can work up quite a sweat when you are bent over, peering in at the damage and your hand is scrubbing so fast that it is a blur - or maybe that's just the sweat in your eyes. It's hot work and it's hard work. It is also unnecessary work and so you start keeping the Clingfilm next to the microwave in the hopes that they will take the hint. Meanwhile you are left with a bad back, a blouse that has stuck to your back and little hope of catching that film that you have waited all week to see. Unless of course you can get a little help, and here is where vinegar can save the day (Yay!).

Find a small microwave safe bowl and pour 1 cup of warm water into it. Next add a couple of drops of dish soap (washing-up liquid) and 1 tablespoon of vinegar. Give the mixture a stir and then put it in the microwave and cook on high for 3-4 minutes. When the time is up, leave the door firmly closed for a further 15 minutes before you open it. When you do open it the mixture of steam and vinegar fumes should have loosened up the baked on food to an extent that it can be removed with just a sponge. No sweat!

Tip: don't forget to leave that cling film handy for next time. If they don't use it, perhaps you can use it yourself: put on a manic grin, brandish it menacingly over your head and chase them around the kitchen a few times, they will get the hint in the end.

    The History of the Microwave

    เขียนโดย pacub | 12:28

In 1946, Dr. Percy Spencer was quite intrigued when he was testing the magnetron, a new vacuum tube, when all of a sudden the candy bar in his pocket melted. This amazed him so much that he thought he would try another experiment with popcorn kernels. He placed the kernels in front of the magnetron and to his surprise they started popping.

It was the next day that Spencer decided to put an egg next to the magnetron. When he did so, the egg began trembling because of the pressure inside of the egg due to the rapidly rising temperature. When a colleague of Spencer's decided to get a better look at the shaking egg, the egg exploded and he was showered with its contents. This brought Spencer to the conclusion that low-density microwave energy was causing these foods to cook quickly. This is when his experimentation took him to entirely new levels.

That is when Spencer took a metal box and cut out an opening that he could feed the microwave energy through. Once the energy was in the box it was unable to escape, so this created a high-density electromagnetic field. This caused the temperature of any food put inside the box to rise quite rapidly. What this did was revolutionize the way that food is cooked and was the basis for what would become the microwave oven.

    The first

However, the microwave oven did not look quite like what we use today. In fact, it weighed approximately 750 pounds and was almost 6 feet in height. This was in late 1946 when the patent was filed by the Raytheon Company. A Boston restaurant was put in charge of testing this large microwave and it was in 1947 that the commercial version of the microwave made its debut on the market, but they cost around $5,000 a piece. Why so expensive? Well, plumbing units also had to be installed because the magnetron had to be cooled by water.

Not everyone looked upon this new invention in a favorable way. It was a complicated unit, but improvements would change the view of the public toward the microwave oven. Smaller units were made and the magnetron was able to be cooled by air, so the need for the plumber was eradicated.

Eventually, microwave ovens were used for more than cooking food. Many commercial establishments were using them to dry cork, paper, and even leather. Then in 1947, the Radarange was introduced by Raytheon. The price was now between $2,000 and $3,000 and the cabinets that housed the microwave were around the size of a refrigerator. Between 1952 and 1955, the first home united, priced at $1295, was introduced by Tappan. It was in 1965 that Raytheon acquired Amana and 1967 when they introduced the first countertop models.

    Progression

By 1975, the microwave had made great strides and had even exceeded gas range sales. It became the staple of any kitchen. By 1976, the microwave had more owners than the dishwasher. No longer was the microwave considered a luxury, it was considered a necessity.

Now, we see that microwaves come in many shapes, sizes, colors, and it is difficult to find someone that doesn't have a microwave oven. And as time goes on, the microwave still continues to change face. With the many different settings that ranges from power defrost to popping popcorn at the push of a single button, it is no wonder that most of our meals are cooked within the microwave. It is quick, it is easy, and it also saves a considerable amount of energy.

Kitchen Cabinets and Counters - How to choose the best

    เขียนโดย pacub | 14:45

The kitchen is the heart of the home. And 'where a delicious meal, while making parties together and the family for a relaxing dinner. But even if you could have the best kitchen tools you can use your kitchen cabinets and kitchen counters need to be replaced.

Perhaps your closets are too small or do not match the rest of the kitchen. Before rushing to buy new, there are some things to think about. How many boxes do you need and what to do sizeWould you? If your kitchen is just on the page, do one of the most space. Check closets, ceiling height would be good because a lot of people have wasted space in the kitchen.

Lots of manufacturers build their kitchen wall cabinets in standard sizes, depth 24 cm and 34.5 cm high. 12-inch widths and can be up to 48 inches. Kitchen Timesavers - 5 Things to Keep in the Freezer to Save During the Dinner Rush

    เขียนโดย pacub | 13:04

Want to avoid those last minute trips to the grocery story, the long lines at the drive thru, and that dinner desperation as you rush to throw together a last minute meal? Keeping your freezer stocked with a few essentials can help get a hot homemade meal on the table in minutes. Here are five essential to keep in your freezer all the time.

    1) Chicken, Beef or Vegetable Broth
Homemade broth can add extra flavor to sauces, substitute for oil or butter to saute vegetables and, of course, is ideal for soups. Thaw some broth, add some frozen vegetables which are already chopped and prepared for you some rice or pasta and some pre-cooked meat and you've got a meal in minutes.

    2) Cooked Rice
Throw away the minute rice and eat the real stuff. Brown rice is a great side dish but can take more than half an hour to cook. Make a large batch when you have time, freeze rice in single serving portions and reheat for a side dish that's even faster than those boxed minute rices, more nutritious and more flavorful.

    3) Bread
Bread is the staff of life and running out can mean an emergency trip to the grocery store. Keep a few loaves in the freezer and you'll never have to go out for bread again. Frozen sliced bread thaws on the countertop in minutes for sandwiches and can be toasted without thawing.

    4) Meatballs
Meatballs are my go to emergency meal. When nothing else is planned or your missing ingredients you can find a way to serve meatballs. Add a sauce and serve over pasta or rice. Throw them in a sandwich, in a pot of soup or on a pizza. If all else fails reheat some in the microwave, add a sauce (BBQ is good) and serve your meatballs like an appetizer.

    5) A bag of ice cubes.
Really? Heck, yes! But we're not talking about having ice cubes on hand here, we're talking about monitoring your freezer. If the freezer gets too warm and your food starts to thaw so will the ice cubes. When it gets cold they will refreeze together. If you notice this than you know your freezer got too warm and can make sure the rest of your food is OK before you plan to use and find out at dinner time that your plans are spoiled.

Convection Toaster Ovens Can Save You Energy, Money and Time

    เขียนโดย pacub | 04:39

Regular toaster ovens are modest appliances, typically used for not much more than browning a couple of slices of bread, making melba toast, broiling cheese on a pita for an 'instant pizza', or reheating leftovers if you don't happen to have (or want to use) a microwave.

But in recent years a wide selection of convection toaster ovens has come on the market to redefine what a toaster oven is. These ovens offer a number of major advantages over the lowly appliance I used in my first bachelor apartment:

They use convection. Forced air circulation with a fan - to increase the rate of heat exchange between the oven air and what you're baking. This can reduce baking and roasting times by up to half. That leaves less time for heat to escape through the walls of the toaster oven, which means less energy use overall, saving you money. The convection process also results in more evenly browned meats, and better quality baked goods.

They have better controls. Many come with digital temperature controls and timers. Even those with old mechanical controls are better made than the cheap toaster ovens of the past.

They can hold a lot of food. You can't roast that Thanksgiving turkey in a convection toaster oven, but you can fit just about anything else in it. Many will handle a pizza up to 12 inches wide (and in fact some come with their own pizza tray); and some can accommodate up to 6 regular or 9 small slices of bread at once or toasting.

They are great for roasting. Many models come with a rotisserie, and you can roast a chicken, two cornish hens, or a medium-sized tied roast to perfection. You can also cook a regular roast in a small roasting pan. or broil steaks or lamb chops using only the top element.

They are small and inexpensive. Compared to a regular range oven, a convection toaster oven is tiny. But they are bigger than a regular toaster oven and you'll need to allow open counter space for them. Some models cost under $100; the better ones come in around $170-250 (you can get better deals if you watch for specials). If you're tight on space or tight on cash, these appliances are a great way to combine several appliances in one.

You might wonder why you would want a convection toaster oven if you already have both a toaster and a regular oven. If you just want to toast a slice or two of bread, I would stick with your regular toaster; but if you do more than two slices at a time, or you want a lot more flexibility in terms of toasting, roasting, baking, broiling, and so on, it's handy to have a counter-top unit that does all this. And if you're tired of waiting 15 minutes for your range oven to heat up just so you can broil some garlic bread, a convection toaster oven warms very quickly and uses far less electricity for small jobs.

Many people buy a convection toaster oven because the nominal cost over a regular toaster oven isn't that great - and then they wind up using it instead of their regular oven. You can bake casseroles or lasagna in it, roast meats, and bake cakes, pies, muffins, cup cakes, croissants, and cookies. For less than the cost of a service call on your old oven when the heating element dies, you can get a new oven that does it all.

If you're considering buying a convection toaster product I suggest buying the extended warranty option. For an extra few dollars a year it is worth it. While these products are typically solidly built, in this low price range you expect to see some quality issues in a few of the units, and problems in particular with the timers on these units are not unheard of. Fortunately, this common timer problem doesn't prevent the units from working, just from running on timer.

A convection toaster can be great in situations where you don't have the space for a range, or the budget. For example, a small mountain cabin (assuming it is grid connected) is a perfect place for such an appliance. Or if you're remodelling your kitchen and the contractors have gutted it and told you to stay out for weeks at a time, a convection toaster oven in your basement, along with a kettle or coffee maker, will do for most of your cooking needs.
